Overview of the QuickBuild Menu

The QuickBuild menu appears at the top of the Opus Editor screen. It provides a variety of shortcuts when working with objects that would take several operations to do manually and is a real time-saver when building any type of multimedia publication.

The options available in the QuickBuild menu are:

Copy and PasteAppearances – you can quickly copy the Object States of one object and paste it onto different objects of the same Object Type in your publication.

Copy and Paste Appearance Elements – each Object State may be made up of several elements, such as, the colour of the border, the background image and level of transparency. These tools allow you to copy the elements from one object and paste them onto different objects in your publication.

Copy and PasteVector Pen/Fill – this allows you to quickly copy the pen and/or fill of one vector polygon and paste it onto different polygons in your publication.

Copy and PasteText Style – this allows you to quickly copy the style of one text object (or the current text selection) and paste it onto different text objects in your publication.

Create Table – often you want to create a series of objects that will be spaced evenly across and down the page – you can do this manually using the Align and Arrange Object tools. However, the Create Table tool allows you to create a table in one operation – it even has an extra facility when you want to create a table of data using Text objects and Array variables.

Rename from contents – when there are many objects on a page (possibly even hundreds!), it is important that they are named. This tool allows you to name objects based on their contents so you can easily and quickly identify objects, which is particularly useful when re-visiting a long forgotten publication.

Insert Characters – this tool allows you to insert special characters and symbols into text boxes, such as copyright and trademark symbols.

Add Scroll Actions – when using Text objects or Button objects that contain a large amount of text, (all of which may not be visible in the object’s border), you will want users to be able to scroll when they use special keys on the keyboard. This tool will add a variety of standard Key Press triggers and Scroll actions to a Text or Button object, thus ensuring consistency for which keys to press and to save time adding the actions to each new object.

Rename – like the Rename from contents tool, the Rename tool allows you to rename objects – with the added ability of giving each object selected a unique number sequence.

Create Menu Page – with this tool you can select several pages in a chapter and have Opus create a new Menu page containing a button for each page selected, as well as a link directly from the button back to the corresponding page. This is a very fast method of building pages and links to pages in one operation.

Create Pages from Menu – like the previous tool, this tool will create new pages. However, this time you can select objects on a single page and Opus will create a new page for each object selected as well as a link from the object to the corresponding page.

Insert Placeholder Text – this option allows you to quickly fill a text box with faux Latin beginning in the time-honoured tradition with Lorem ipsum dolor… This feature is for designers who have to layout pages without having the final copy for text boxes. In order to get an idea of how the text will look designers often fill an area with placeholder copy of this time so they can play with font styles and sizes before the final text is finalized.

QuickScript Template – this option will insert a script object onto the current page allowing you to call special functions such as Orbit and Colour Cycle.

Using the QuickBuild Menu

  1. The QuickBuild menu contains all of the tools that make up the QuickBuild feature. However, some of the options may be greyed-out – this means they are not available; either for the Object Type selected or because you have not selected more than one object.

  2. The right-click menu for an object will contain only those tools that apply for the Object Type selected. For example, the Insert Characters option will not appear in the right-click menu when you have selected a Video object.

  3. The Rename, Create Menu Page and Create Pages from Menu options appear under the Multiple Objects sub-menu of the QuickBuild menu. As the sub-menu name suggests, these options are only available when you have selected more than one object.
