Paste Appearances

The Paste Appearances option in the QuickBuild menu allows you to paste Object States from one object into a similar object or group of objects.

Note:
This option is Object Type specific, in other words, you can only paste Object States to the same type of object as was originally copied with the Copy Appearances option. For example, if you copy a Button object, you can only paste the appearances onto other Button objects.

Using the Paste Appearances feature:

  1. Make sure you have used the Copy Appearances option to copy the Object States of an object – see Copy Appearances feature for more information.

  2. Select the object (or objects) that you want to paste (i.e. add) the new appearances into.

Note:
The object(s) you select must be of the same type as the object that was originally copied. If it is not the same Object Type, the Paste Appearances option will be disabled (i.e. it will look greyed-out) and cannot be selected.

  1. Select Paste Appearances from the QuickBuild menu – the current settings (if any) for each of the states in the selected objects are overwritten with the copied object’s appearance.

Note:
When using the Copy Appearances option, you can limit which Object States are copied, only the selected states are pasted into the selected object or objects.

  1. The copied appearances are stored in an Appearance Clipboard (like the standard Windows Copy Clipboard) and remain in the clipboard until you run the Copy Appearances option again. This means you can continue using the Paste Appearances option on objects on different pages in your publication or whenever you add a new object.

  2. When you want to copy the appearance of a different object, use the Copy Appearances option again and then repeat steps 1 to 4 above – see Copy Appearances feature for more information.

Note:
There is also a Paste Appearance Elements option that is used in combination with the Copy Appearance Elements option in the QuickBuild menu. If the Paste Appearances option is not enabled, make sure you did not use the Copy Appearance Elements option instead of Copy Appearances; or check that the object(s) selected are the same Object Type as the object that was originally copied.
