Paste Appearance Elements

The Paste Appearance Elements option in the QuickBuild menu allows you to paste the elements of an Object State from one object into an object or group of objects.

Note:
All of the Appearance Elements are options on the object’s Properties dialog, they are: Background, Border, Image, Rotation, Stretch, Skew, Deform, Transparency, Button appearance, Flare, Texture and Alpha Channel. For example, the Texture and Alpha Channel elements are part of the Effects tab while the Background element is set in the Background tab.

Using the Paste Appearance Elements feature:

  1. Make sure you have used the Copy Appearance Elements option to copy the Appearance Elements of an object’s Object State – see Copy Appearance Elements for more information.

  2. Select the object (or objects) that you want to paste (i.e. add) the new elements into.

  3. The object(s) can be of any Object Type.

  4. Select Paste Appearance Elements from the QuickBuild menu – the current settings (if any) for each element of the Object State in the selected objects are overwritten with the copied object’s appearance.

Note:
When using the Copy Appearance Elements option, you can limit which elements are copied, only the selected elements are pasted into the selected object or objects.

  1. The copied appearances are stored in an Appearance Clipboard (like the standard Windows Copy Clipboard) and remain in the clipboard until you run the Copy Appearance Elements option again. This means you can continue using the Paste Appearance Elements option on objects on different pages in your publication or whenever you add a new object.

  2. When you want to copy the appearance of a different Object State, use the Copy Appearance Elements option again and then repeat steps 1 to 4 above – see Copy Appearance Elements for more information.

Note:
There is also a Paste Appearances option that is used in combination with the Copy Appearances option in the QuickBuild menu. If the Paste Appearance Elements option is not enabled, make sure you did not use the Copy Appearances option instead of Copy Appearance Elements.
