Rename

The Rename option in the QuickBuild menu allows you to rename multiple objects in your publication to a new name you specify giving each object a sequence number, for example:

Example 1: Objects selected

Example 2: Rename option will rename all objects and add a sequence number if required

In the illustration above, the four objects in Page 1 have been selected (Example 1); the Rename option is applied with the new name Option given, along with an additional sequence number (Example 2).

This is particularly useful when you have created several objects on a page that are options because you can number the sequence as in Example 2 above. This is also useful if you want to create pages for each object selected because you can number the objects (e.g. Menu 1, Menu 2, Menu 3, etc.) and then use the Create Pages from Menu option in the QuickBuild menu to create a separate page for each object as well as the link to open the new page – see Create Pages from Menu for more information.

Using the Rename feature:

  1. Select the object names in the Objects tab of the Page Organiser that you want to rename – the objects will be highlighted in blue.

Note:
You MUST select the objects in the Page Organiser in the same order as the number sequence you want to create, if you want them numbered in a particular order (see point 4 below). Use the Ctrl key to select the objects in the correct sequence.

You can rename objects from several pages at the same time; simply select the objects in each page that you want to rename.

  1. Select the Multiple Objects option in the QuickBuild menu then the Rename option – this will open the QuickBuild – Rename dialog box.

  2. In the New name box of the Rename dialog, type the name you want to use to rename the selected objects. You can use a combination of alphanumeric characters and the name can contain as many spaces as you require.

Note:
If you want to add a number sequence (see point 4 below) leave a space after the last character typed if you want a space between the name and number (e.g. Option 1); if you do not want a space, do not leave a space (e.g. Option1)

  1. Use the Add number, starting at option in the Rename dialog if you want to add a number sequence after the new name. Type the number in the box that you want to start the sequence from. By default, this option is ticked and will add a number sequence to the selected objects.

Note:
The number sequence is incremented by 1 for each selected object starting with the first number you enter in this box, for example if you start at 10 and the new name is Option then the first object selected will be renamed Option 10, the second Option 11, and so on.

  1. Use the Additional text option in the Rename dialog if you want to add extra text before or after the new name. The extra text can be the object type (For example Button for button objects, or Frame for frame objects) or any general extra text. By default, this option is not ticked and will not add any other text.

  2. Click on the OK button in the Rename dialog to save your changes – Opus will automatically rename your selected objects with the new data you entered in the Rename dialog.

Note:
Remember, you can rename objects from several pages at the same time; if you need the objects to be numbered in a particular sequence, you must select them in the Page Organiser in the same sequence as you want them to be numbered.
