Rename from Contents

The Rename from Contents option in the QuickBuild menu allows you to rename objects in your publication based on their contents, for example:

Example 1: Before using Rename from Contents

image\QB_Rename_From_Contents_2.jpg

Example 2: After using Rename from Contents

In the example above, the Text object named Text 1 is renamed using the Rename from Contents option, which for Text objects, copies the first two words typed in the text box and uses that as the new name for the object.

Objects that do not show text, such as, an Image or Video objects will be named by their contents e.g. for Images the filename of the graphic and for Videos the filename of the movie. Below is a table showing the renaming convention used for each object type:

Object Type

Renaming convention

Text

The first two words typed in the text box.

Button

The first two words typed on the button.

Listbox

The first two words typed on the first line of the Listbox.

Image

The full filename of the graphic minus the file type e.g. Background ImageJPG will be entered as Background Image.

Video

The full filename of the movie minus the file type i.e. the same convention as Image objects.

DocView

The full filename of the document opened in the DocView minus the file type i.e. the same convention as Image objects.

Browser

The URL of the web page you want to view in the object e.g. http://www.digitalworkshop.com

Note:
If the Object Type does not appear in the list above, then the Rename from Contents option cannot be used for that object type.

Using the Rename from Contents feature:

  1. Select the object you want to rename – a bounding box will surround the object.

  2. Alternatively, select more than one object by holding the Shift key as you click on the objects on the page – a bounding box will surround each object.

Note:
The objects do not have to be the same Object Type; Opus will work out the type of object and rename the object based on its content.

  1. Select Rename from contents from the QuickBuild menu to rename the objects based on its contents.

  2. Alternatively, right-click on an object to open the right-click menu and select Rename from contents from the QuickBuild menu.

  3. The name of the objects selected will be renamed in the Objects tab of the Page Organiser.

Note:
If the content of two objects is the same, the object higher up the hierarchy in the Objects tab will be given a copy number. For example, if two Text objects start with the text Opus Pro, the object lower down the hierarchy will be named Opus Pro and the next object higher up in the hierarchy the name Opus Pro (2).

Renaming objects with the contents is particularly useful when you are developing a publication, as you can quickly recognise which object contains what data.

You can also use the Rename option in the QuickBuild menu to change the name and number sequence of the objects – see Rename for more information.
