Create Menu Page

The Create Menu Page option in the QuickBuild menu allows you to select pages in your publication and automatically generate a new page (i.e. a Menu page) containing links to each of the selected pages, for example:

Example 1: Pages selected

Example 2: Create Menu Page option will create a new Menu page

In the illustration above, the four pages in Chapter 1 have been selected (Example 1); the Create Menu Page option is applied and creates a new page at the top of Chapter 1 with four Button objects, each contains a Left Mouse Clicktrigger and a Go to Pageaction that will go to the corresponding page (Example 2).

This option is a shortcut method for creating a menu from pages you have created in your publication – all of the links are created for you. Once you have the new Menu page you can change it to fit the style of your publication like any other page.

Using the Create Menu Page feature:

  1. Select the Page names in the Objects tab of the Page Organiser*pop_defOrganiser that you want to include in the new menu page – the page will be highlighted in blue.

Note:
Hold down the Shift key as you select the top and bottom page name if you want to include a range of pages. Alternatively, hold down the Ctrl key if you want to select individual pages in the Page Organiser.

  1. Select the Multiple Objects option in the QuickBuild menu and then the Create Menu Page option – this will automatically create a new QuickBuild Menu Pageat the top of the Chapter.

  2. Alternatively, right-click any of the selected pages in the Page Organiser and select the QuickBuild menu and then the Create Menu Page option.

Note:
You can only select pages from a single Chapter at a time and the QuickBuild Menu Page will always be added to the top of the Chapter’s list of pages.

  1. The QuickBuild Menu Page contains a Button object for each of the pages you have selected in the Chapter. The name of the button is the same as the name of the page in the Chapter’s list.

  2. Each Button object on the QuickBuild Menu Page has a Left Mouse Click trigger and a Go to Page action added to it. When the user runs the publication, the page will appear when the button is pressed. You can add other actions to object as you would with any other object. You can also edit the button and page as you would any other object.

  3. You can repeat steps 1 to 4 above to create a new QuickBuild Menu Page; this can contain the same pages or different pages within the Chapter. The new Menu will appear above the first Menu.

Note:
It may be useful to create more than one Menu if you are creating sub-menus of different pages within a Chapter; or if you add new pages to the Chapter, you may want to create a new Menu page and delete the first one.

Note:
Remember, a Menu page can only be built from pages within the same Chapter.

There is also a Create Pages from Menu option in the QuickBuild menu that does the reverse of Create Menu Page – see Create Pages from Menu for more information.
