Copy Text Style

The Copy Text Style option in the QuickBuild menu allows you to copy the styles of a text object or some selected test and paste them onto another text object or selection.

The standard Windows Copy feature and the Duplicate button in Opus will copy the whole object. For example, if you copy an object named Text 1 and use the Paste button or Duplicate button you will have get a new object named Text 1 (2), that is, an exact copy of the object. The Copy Text Style feature however will only copy the styles of the text and not the whole object. This feature is useful when you have created a number of vector objects and you want to quickly make sure that they all have the same styles.

Note:
If the text object or the current text selection has more than one style (for example, a bold section or a different font) then the first available style in the object or selection will be copied.

Using the Copy Text Style feature:

  1. Create a text object and change its styles as required – see Formatting and Editing your Text for more information.

  2. Select either the whole text object or just the text selection whose style you want to copy.

  3. Select Copy Text Style from the QuickBuild menu.

  4. The Fill and pen styles are saved in a Text Style Clipboard (i.e. a memory storage area) and the PasteText Style option in the QuickBuild menu is enabled. You can now paste the styles onto other text objects or selections – see Paste Text Style feature for more information.

  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for each piece of text whose styles you want to copy. This will overwrite the current style information held in the Text Style Clipboard (which can only contain one set of information at a time) and replace it with the new style information.

Note:
Opus will only remember the text style of the last object copied (i.e. the Text Style Clipboard works in a similar way to the standard Windows Copy Clipboard). However, at any time you can re-select a text object and use the Copy Text Style option again when you need to copy a text style onto any new text you create in your publication.
