Formatting and Editing your Text

Once you have created your text you can format and edit it in the standard way familiar to anyone who has used a word processor.

The formatting and editing of text applies to all text objects, that is, the Text and Text Input objects and the text that is displayed in the Button object.

Tip:

Opus is not a dedicated word processor. You may therefore prefer to prepare large amounts of text in a dedicated word processor and cut and paste it into Opus or use the Import Text option.

Anti-Aliasing

Text is automatically Anti-aliased to give a smoother appearnce. It can be turned off if preferred and there are two quality settings available if required – these options are on the Text tab.

For Flash files the appearance of text can be improved by using the Flash Type option.

For HTML5 files the quality of text will depend on the browser being used and the font settings in the Web Font Manager.

Static vs Dynamic Text

Both Flash and HTML5 publication types have two types of text – static and dynamic. Opus will automatically pick the appropriate one but there is also an option to override this yourself. As the name suggests dynamic text can change at runtime so if you have text which needs to be updated/changed during the course of your publication then it needs to be set to dynamic. Text which contains Opus variables needs to be set to dynamic or the variables will not update.

To format all the text in a text object:

  1. Click on the text object to select it.

  2. Choose the formatting you require from the Format toolbar, or choose the colour you require from the colour palette.

To format a specific section of text or individual word:

  1. Click on the text box to select it if it is not already selected.

  2. Click again inside the text box and the beginning or end of the piece of text you wish to format. The cursor will change to an I-beam.

  3. Drag the mouse across the piece of text you wish to format so that it is highlighted.

  4. Choose the formatting you require from the format toolbar, or choose the colour you require from the colour palette.

Note:
This process will also work with objects in the Notes View.

For examples of the effect formatting has on text see Formatted Text examples for more information.
