Paragraph Dialog for Text Objects

The Paragraph dialog allows you to set the spacing of a paragraph in a Text object. When you have added a Text object to a page and it contains several paragraphs, you may want to set different spacing for each one using the Paragraph dialog.

You can also access the font settings and the tabs settings for the text from this dialog. It will remain open while you make and apply the amendments you need.

Using the Paragraph dialog:

  1. Select the paragraph in the Text object you want to adjust the spacing for. Make sure the I-beam cursor is flashing somewhere inside the paragraph you want to adjust.

  2. Select Paragraph… from the Text menu at the top of the Opus Editor or click the Paragraph… button on the Text tab of the Properties dialog – this will open the Paragraph dialog.

  3. Use the Justification box in the Paragraph dialog to set the justification to one of the options. Click on the down arrow next to the box to list the justification types available. By default, Left justification is selected – see Formatted Text Examples for more information on the justification types.

  4. Use the Spacing panel in the Paragraph dialog to set the spacing between each paragraph. You can have a space before or after a paragraph and you can set the type of Line Spacing to use e.g. Single or Double. The Exactly box is used when you select Exact, At Least or Multiple from the Line Spacing box and allows you to enter your own amount of spacing in the box.

  5. Use the Indents panel in the Paragraph dialog if you want to have spacing before (Left Indent box) or after (Right Indent box) the paragraph – this will leave a space between the margin and text. Use the Special Indent box if you want to apply an extra spacing to the first line or next lines (Hanging option) in the paragraph. Use the spin buttons next to the appropriate box to set the amount of spacing.

Note:
Often you indent paragraphs to emphasise the text contained in them.

  1. Click the OK button to apply your changes.
