The Font tab for Text Objects

The Font dialog allows you to set more details for the font and text formatting than is available from the Format toolbar. This includes the style for underlining, the character spacing and kerning.

When you have added a Text object to a page and it contains several paragraphs, you may also want to set different spacing for each one by selecting the specific piece of text using the I-beam cursor but note that the kerning option applies to the whole text object.

You can also access the paragraph settings and the tabs settings for the text from this dialog. It will remain open while you make and apply the amendments you need.

Note:
You only need to change the aspects of the font which you want to change. For example: if the text object is already in Arial you do not need to choose Arial in the font list box.

Using the Fonts dialog:

  1. Select the paragraph in the Text object you want to adjust the spacing for. Make sure the I-beam cursor is flashing somewhere inside the paragraph you want to adjust or you have selected the specific text you want changed.

  2. Select Font… from the Text menu at the top of the Opus Editor or click the Font… button on the Text tab of the Properties dialog – this will open the Font dialog.

  3. Use the Font listbox to choose the font itself and choose a size from the Size listbox alongside.

  4. If you want to change the style of the text to/from Bold, Italic etc choose the setting you require by selecting one from the Style selection of radio buttons

  5. Use the Colourdrop down colour well to set the colour of the chosen text.

  6. You can add a background to the text clicking on the Background checkbox and selecting the colour you want.

  7. You can set a drop shadow for the text by selecting the Shadow checkbox and amending the transparency of the shadow if required.

Note:
As these settings are merely to modify the existing settings the checkboxes are three way options – providing on, off and as is. In addition, the drop down colour wells also have the option As Is which allows you to keep that setting as it currently stands.

  1. Use the Underline drop down to select a style of underlining if required

  2. Use the Antialias option to set the font smoothing setting for this text (applies to the whole object)

  3. Use the Character Spacing option to set whether the characters in the text should be closer together or farther apart than normal.

  4. Use the Kerning option to select a set of kerning pairs to be applied to this text.

  5. Use the Preview panel at the bottom of the dialog illustrates how your text will look when you apply your changes

  6. Click the OK button to apply your changes.
