Using the Import Text Tool

Any Text object on a page in your publication can contain text imported from an external disk-based file. This is particularly useful if you already have pre-prepared text in a document. Opus can import plain text files (.TXT files) or Rich Text Format files (.RTF files).

On the Tools toolbar is the Import Text tool image\Icon_Object_Text_File.jpg. Use this tool to create a new Text box on your page, Opus will automatically open a Windows Open dialog box that allows you to locate your text file.

Note:
You can also import text into an existing Text object on a page. Simply right-click over the Text box and select the Insert from file… option from the right-click menu.

To import text with the Import Text tool:

  1. Draw an Import Text object on the page as described in Adding Object to a Page. The Windows Open dialog box will appear.

  2. Locate the text file on your computer, then click on the Open button to import the text file. The text will automatically be inserted into the Text object.

Note:
You can only import .TXT or .RTF files. If you want to open a word processing document, make sure you save it as a .RTF file first before you try and import it into Opus.
