Publish Settings: Options tab

The Options tab in the Publishing Settings dialog allows you to set the compression level for the Images, Audio and Files in your publication version. It also allows you embed AVI and MPG videos in your publication.

Note:
The Options tab contains the default settings for the resources in your publication – if you want, you can change the compression level for selected resources or resources on certain pages or chapters in your publication using the Publish Options dialog in the Resource Manager window.

To edit the Options tab settings:

  1. The Enable Image Compression panel is used to compress images when your publication is published. By default, Opus uses JPEG compression to reduce the size of the image files of your publication but this is a lossy compression technique which means that detail may be lost if the compression is too high.

Note:
Each of the options available in this panel are described in points 5 to 10 of the Image Compression tab of the Publish Options dialog – see Image Compression tab for more information.

  1. The Enable File Compression panel deals with how resource files are compressed when your publication is published – this is to reduce the file size of the publication.

Note:
Each of the options available in this panel are described in points 5 to 6 of the File Compression tab of the Publish Options dialog – see File Compression tab for more information.

  1. The Enable Audio Compression panel deals with how audio files are compressed when your publication is published – this is to reduce the file size of the publication.

Note:
Each of the options available in this panel are described in points 5 to 6 of the Audio Compression tab of the Publish Options dialog – see Audio Compression tab for more information.

  1. The Enable Incremental Publish option allows you to speed up the publication process by copying resources that have already been included when you previously ran the Publish Wizard for this publication. This means the publish process only needs to process new resources you have added since the last published version – this can dramatically reduce the amount of time taken for publishing, especially if your publication previously contained high quality sound or video resources.

Note:
The amount of time saved by the Incremental Publish option is displayed at the end of the Publish Details report.

  1. The Enable Video Embedding option allows you to compile AVI or MPG videos in your publication into the published publication file itself i.e. the videos do not appear as separate files, which could be copied and used elsewhere

Note:
See Embedded Video for more information.

  1. Make your changes to the other tabs in the Publish Settings dialog, then click the OK button to close the dialog and return to the third page of the Publish Wizard to start publishing.

Note:
By default Opus uses a compression level that will be unnoticeable in most instances.
