Publish Options Dialog

The Publish Options dialog is used to optimise your publication and make the smallest and most efficient, but best-looking publication possible. This dialog allows you to create different publishing settings if required, for different resources within your publication.

Using the Publish Options dialog:

1. The Set the publish options for panel allows you to set the location of either:

selected resources in the Resource pane of the Resource Manager window;

all the resources in the Resource folder for the current publication open in the Resource Manager.

2. The For resource file[s] option in the Set the publish… panel is automatically selected when you have selected individual resources or a selection of resources in the Resource pane of the Resource Manager window.

Note:
Any of the settings you make to the rest of this dialog will only affect the selected resources.

3. The All resources in folder option in the Set the publish… panel is automatically selected when you have selected a folder in the Organiser of the Resource Manager window.

Note:
This option can affect the publishing settings not only for this folder but also for any of its sub folder and files (see point 4 below).

4. Use the Overwrite settings on sub folders and files option in the Set the publish… panel if you want the publish settings you are about to make in this dialog also apply to sub folders and files of the current folder. This option is only available for the All resources option (point 3 above) and not the For resource file[s] option (point 2 above).

Note:
The pathname to the current folder is displayed after the All resources in folder option.

5. The rest of the Publish Options dialog is split into four tabs – see points 6 to 9 below for more information.

6. The Location tab – deals with the location of resources in the published version of your publication. By default, all resources are packaged inside a single .ILM file. Use the Location tab if you want some resources to be located elsewhere.

Note:
See Location tab for a full description of the options available.

7. The Image Compression tab – is used to reduce the size of image files, in order to make the overall publication smaller. Use the Image Compression tab if you want to change the current settings.

Note:
See Image Compressions tab for a full description of the options available.

8. The Audio Compression tab – is used to reduce the size of audio files, in order to make the overall publication smaller. Use the Audio Compression tab if you want to change the current settings.

Note:
See Audio Compressions tab for a full description of the options available.

9. The File Compression tab – is used to reduce the size of files that make up your publication – the greater the amount of compression, the quicker the publication will load. Use the File Compression tab if you want to change the current settings.

Note:
See File Compression tab for a full description of the options available.

10. Fill-in the appropriate tab that you want to change – this may be more than one of the tabs – then click the OK button to save your changes and close the Publish Options dialog.

Note:
The next time you publish your publication, the new settings you have made in the Publish Options dialog will be used.

Note:
When you publish your publication using the Publish Wizard there is a Settings button on one page of the wizard that allows you to make general changes to the published version – this includes some of the same settings that you can apply here, such as the Image, File and Audio compression levels. If you want to change the compression levels for all resources in your publication, use the Settings button in the Publish Wizard to do it – the Publish Options dialog is used to change selected resources only.
