The Location tab

The Location tab is the first tab in the Publish Options dialog and deals with the location of resources in the published version of your publication. By default, all resources are packaged inside a single .ILM file but you can use this tab to alter this so that some resources can be located elsewhere.

Note:
By default, videos are also embedded in the .ILM file – see Embedded Video for more information.

Using the Location tab:

1. The Location tab is part of the Publish Options dialog – you must select the resources in the Resource pane of the Resource Manager window before you fill-in the Location tab settings – see Publish Options for more information.

2. The Use the settings from the parent folder option is the default setting for this tab. This means that the publishing settings are the same as the folder immediately above them in the Organiser in the Resource Manager window. If none of the folders that contain resources for this publication are given different publishing settings then the default settings are applied.

3.  The Default location option will save the currently selected resources with the standard publishing settings, which means that all resources are saved in the .ILM file.

Note:
Even videos are embedded inside the file. You could choose to use one of the other publish settings below if you do not want to embed the video (see points 4 and 5 below) – see Embedded Video for more information.

4.  The Internal to the published Opus .ilm file option will save all the selected resources to the .ILM file whatever the type of resource it is.

5.  The In the same location option will look for the selected resources in the same location on the users system as it is in the creators system.

Note:
For example, if your images are in a c:\graphics folder and you choose this publish settings option, then when the publication is run on the users system, it will look for the resources in a c:\graphics folder on the user system.

6. The External File option allows you to copy resources to specific locations on the users system. Selecting this option will highlight the External File panel in which you can specify the location.

7. Use the Base Location box in the External File panel to find the starting point for the location of the files. Click the down arrow next to the Base Location box to list the available options, which are: Publish Directory; CD-ROM drive; Windows Temp Directory; Windows Directory; Windows SystemDirectory and My Documents Directory.

Note:
For example, if you selected CD-ROM drive, then when the user runs the publication, the system will look for a CD-ROM with the resources on it.

8. Use the Path box the External File panel to add any other folders the system will have to find once they have located the Base Location. Click on the box to open the Windows Browse for Folder dialog in which you can locate a directory in which the resources will be copied.

Note:
For example, you could select the Base Location of CD-ROM drive and the Path as c:\graphics – when the user runs the publication the selected resources will be located at d:\graphics (assuming d: is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive on the users machine).

9. Use the Copy files on publish option the External File panel if you want the resource files to be copied when you run the Publish Wizard.

10. Use the Use original filename option the External File panel if you want to preserve the resources filename when it is copied to the new location.

Note:
For example, if you copy an image resource named splash_screen.JPG and this option is NOT ticked, Opus will give the image an internal name (e.g. 00000001.JPG). If this option is ticked, Opus will use its original name, in this example, splash_screen.JPG.

11. Use the Flatten directory tree option the External File panel if you want all the resources to be in a single folder and not in their original sub folders.

12. Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the Publish Options dialog to save your changes.
