The Audio Compression tab

The Audio Compression tab is the third tab in the Publish Options dialog and deals with how audio files are compressed when your publication is published – this is to reduce the file size of the publication.

The audio compression is only applied to uncompressed audio - it will not re-encode MP3's (for example) because this would result in a quality loss.

Files that will compress must be 24, 16, or 8 bit PCM WAV or 32 bit IEEE floating point WAV. Files may be mono or stereo (or more channels) and any sample rate.

Note:
Opus includes support for Ogg Vorbis sound files which is a good alternative to MP3

Using the Audio Compression tab:

  1. The Audio Compression tab is part of the Publish Options dialog – you must select the resources in the Resource pane of the Resource Manager window before you fill-in the Audio Compression tab settings – see Publish Options for more information.

  2. The Use the settings from the parent folder option is the default setting for this tab. This means that the publishing settings are the same as the folder immediately above them in the Organiser in the Resource Manager window. If none of the folders that contain resources for this publication are given different publishing settings then the default settings are applied.

  3. Use the Use the Default Audio Compression Settings option if you want the selected resources to use the same settings as the default settings when the publication is published.

  4. Use the Disable Audio Compression option if you do NOT want to compress the resources at all.

  5. Use the Enable Audio Compression option if you want to change the compression for the selected resources – choosing this option will enable the Quality panel.

  6. The Quality panel contains a simple slider for you to choose between eleven levels of compression for the selected audio resources. Move the slider to the new level of compression.

Note:
Setting the compression to the maximum level will significantly increase the time the publishing process will take and the file size of the publication.

7. Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the Publish Options dialog to save your changes.
