Adding and Removing Components

You can add or remove components from a Component Gallery currently open in the Components tab of the Organiser. You can add a page, object or group of objects into a gallery from the current page displayed in the Opus Editor.

There are some things you should consider when adding components to a gallery, for example, Publication variables are not copied but Page variables are – see What is a Component?? for more information.

Note:
You can only add components from a gallery that is unlocked. In the Gallery List, the image\Component_Unlocked.jpg icon means the gallery is unlocked and you can add components. The image\Component_Locked.jpg icon means the gallery is locked, you cannot add components. To lock/unlock a gallery, right-click on the name of the gallery in the Gallery List and from the right-click menu select Gallery Locked.

To add a component TO a gallery:

  1. Page – to add a page to a gallery, right-click on an empty space on the page displayed in the Opus Editor to open the right-click menu and select the Copy to Gallery option – this will open a sub menu of the Component Galleries currently open in Opus. Select the name of the gallery to which you want to add the page.

Note:
Make sure there is no object under the arrow cursor when you open the right-click menu.

  1. Object – right-click on the object and select the Copy to Gallery… option as in point 1 above and select the name of the gallery.

  2. Group of Objects – to select a group of objects on a page, hold the Shift key as you select the individual objects – a bounding box will surround the objects. Again, right-click while the objects are selected and select the Copy to Gallery… option and select the name of the gallery.

Note:
Each object is added to the gallery separately. If the objects work together then group the objects in a Frame object and add the frame to the gallery – a Frame object will appear as one object in the gallery.

  1. Any object added to a gallery will appear as a small thumbnail with the name of the object displayed beneath it.

  2. If you have consolidated resources i.e. you have created a GalleryResources folder for the gallery, the component is not added to the folder unless you Consolidate the folder – see Managing Galleries for more information.

Note:
An alternative method of adding an object to the gallery is as follows: Select the object on the page; hold down the right mouse button and drag the object over the gallery open in the Components tab; release the mouse button.

  1. A small menu will appear, allowing you to select Move Here, Copy Here or Cancel which perform the following function:

          1. Move Here – will place the object in the resource gallery and delete it from your page.

          2. Copy Here – will place a copy of the object in the resource gallery and leave your original on your page

          3. Cancel – will cancel the operation. The object will not be added to the gallery and will remain on the page.

To add a component FROM a Gallery to a page:

  1. Click on the component’s thumbnail in the gallery and drag it to the page currently displayed in the Opus Editor and release the mouse.

  2. The component will be added to the page at the same position as it appeared on the page from which it was originally added to the gallery.

  3. You can place the same component on a page as many times as you like but each one will appear over the top of the first. You may have created a style for button objects that you want to use repeatedly, therefore, you may want to add it to a page several times, just make sure you move the object to a new position or it will be sitting on top of the others.

  4. Once a component is added to a page it is just like any other object on the page and can be edited in the same way.

To remove a component from a Gallery:

  1. Click on the component’s thumbnail in the gallery and press the Del key on your keyboard. The component will be deleted from the gallery without a warning message appearing.

  2. You can delete objects from a gallery if it is locked image\Component_Locked.jpg or unlocked image\Component_Unlocked.jpg.

  3. If you have consolidated resources i.e. you have created a GalleryResources folder for the gallery, the component is not removed from the folder unless you Purge the folder – see Managing Galleries for more information.
