Creating Bookmarks

Creating a Bookmark for a page is easy. Simply add a Set Bookmark action to a page – that’s it!

Note:
Before you use the Bookmark feature, you should decide whether you want to use Single vs. Multiple Bookmarks.

The two most common methods of creating a bookmark on a page are described below:

Automatic Bookmarking of a page:

  1. Create (or open) a Master page in your publication and open its Actions dialog. To open the Actions dialog, select the name of the page in the Organiser and from the right-click menu, select the Edit Actions option.

  2. Add an On Show trigger to the Actions Organiser for the Master page.

  3. Add the Set Bookmark action to your trigger, as described in adding actions. There are no additional settings for this option.

  4. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

  5. Use the Master page on each page that you want to bookmark.

Note:
This method allows a page to be bookmarked as soon as the user enters the page. This method is often used with Single Bookmarks so that the next time the user enters the publication they will be returned to the last page they were on when they last exited.

As an alternative to using a Master page you could simply, put the Set Bookmark action on an On Show trigger on each individual page you want to bookmark – this will have the same effect.

User-controlled bookmarking of a page:

  1. Create an object on a page that will be used as a button.

Note:
The button should fit the style of your publication. The object could be drawn using a Button, Text, Image or Vector object – whichever object fits the rest of your design.

  1. Double right-click the new button object to open its Actions dialog.

  2. Add a Left Mouse Click trigger to the Actions Organiser for the button.

  3. Add the Set Bookmark action to your trigger, as described in adding actions. There are no additional settings for this option.

  4. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

  5. Add the new button to each page (or to a Master page) that you think users will want to bookmark.

Note:
This method will only bookmark a page when the user clicks the button. This method is often used with Multiple Bookmarks so the user has a choice of which pages they would like to bookmark. You could also create a separate button with a Show Bookmark Dialog action – this allows the user to see a Bookmarks dialog box containing all of the pages in the publication they have already bookmarked.
