The Print action provides a variety of printing options to print the current page, an object on the page or a named text file. You can also specify whether the standard WindowsPrint dialog appears, allowing the user to set the printer, page size and number of copies before printing.

Setting up the Print action:

  1. Add the Print action to your trigger, as described in adding actions. The Print tab will automatically appear when you add the action.

  2. Select the Print Current Page option when you print the current page of your publication.

Note:
The page is generated as a bitmap graphic and for most screen resolutions and page sizes we recommend using the Default to Landscape option (see below). Any objects set to be Initially Hidden will not appear on your print out.

If you select this option, go to step 7 below.

  1. Select the Print Page option when you want to print a specific page of the publication. Click the image\Combo_Drop_Button.jpg button to drop down a list of all the pages in your publication, and then select one of the page names. If you select this option, go to step 7 below.

  2. Select the Print object on current page option when you want to print a specific object that appears on the page. Click the image\Combo_Drop_Button.jpg button to drop down a list of all the objects on the current page in the publication, the select one of the object names. If you select this option, go to step 7 below.

  3. If required, set the options for laying out the final output via the Output Options dialog.

  4. Select the Print Variable option when you want to print the content of a variable. You might, for example have stored feedback about a student’s progress or captured long answers into a variable and this lets you generate a printed copy. Once this option is selected go to step 7 below

  5. Select the Print Text File option when you want to print a disk-based text file. Click on the Browse… button to open the standard Windows search dialog box to find the name of the file you want to print. If you select this option, go to step 7 below.

Note:
The publication will need to know where to look for the file, as its location on your computer may not be the same as your user. Opus allows you to specify the location. Click on the In TEMP directory option or In Publication Directory when Published option if required.

  1. Click on the Show Print Settings dialog before printing option if you want the standard Windows Printer Setup dialog to appear before printing starts. This allows the user to set up the printer and page size and number of copies before printing.

  2. Click on the Show cancel printing dialog when printing option if you want the standard Windows Message box to appear. This displays a message box telling your user that printing is going on – it also provides a Cancel button to stop the printing.

  3. Click on the Default to Landscape option option if you want the printer to use landscape printing orientation (unless the user changes it via the Print Settings dialog)

  4. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.
