Read Data from Registry Action

The Read Data from Registry action allows you to read information contained in this publication’s Windows Registry entry by naming the Label in which the information was stored and saving the contents of the label into a variable within Opus.

Note:
This action can only be used if you have previously created a registry entry using the Write Data to Registry action.

As an alternative to writing to the Registry you can write to a text file using the Write to Disk File or Write Text to File actions.

The Storage menu also contains the following actions relevant to this action: Write Data from the Registry; Delete Data from Registry and Delete All Publication Data from Registry.

Setting up the Read Data from Registry Action:

1. Add the Read Data from Registry action to your trigger, as described in adding actions. The Read Data from Registry tab will automatically appear when you add the action.

2. Click on the Label box to specify the name of the label from which you want to retrieve information.

Note:
The label must be the same as a label you previously named in the Write Data to Registry action.

3. Select either the current user only or all users option depending on how you originally created the registry entry with the Write Data to Registry action.

Note:
For example, if you originally wrote to the registry with the all users option selected, you must select the all users options here.

4. Use the Variable option to select the name of the variable in which you want to store the returned label’s contents.

5. Click on the New… button if have not created the variable yet. This will open the New Variable dialog box. In the dialog box, type a new name for the variable and click the OK button.

6. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

Note:
This action will only work for publications that you have published using the Create a Standalone Publication option in the Publish Wizard.
