The CD-R Wizard

The CD-R Wizard allows you to copy files to a CD-R or CD-RW without leaving Opus The wizard can be launched after you have run the publishing process and includes tools to: select files and folders; select the CD drive and speed of copying; options to name the CD and simulate writing to the CD; erase data on a CD-RW; create an Autorun.inf file and view the log/process information.

Note: This function requires Nero to be installed on your computer. Otherwise you will need to create the relevant files in a subdirectory and burn them using a different tool. See the section at the end of this page for more information.

The CD drive in your machine must be one that can copy (i.e. burn) CD’s – there are two types:

(i) CD-R – CD-Recordable, you can burn information onto the disk but you cannot remove it from the disk.

(ii) CD-RW – CD-Rewritable, you can burn information onto the disk and erase the information as well.

Using the CD-R Wizard:

1. You can open the CD-R Wizard from the final page of the Publish wizard by selecting the Launch CD-R Wizard option before you click on the Finish button.

2. Alternatively, click on the Tools menu, and then select the CD-R wizard option – this will open the CD-R Wizard.

3. The first page of the CD-R wizard allows you to select the individual files or folders that you want to burn on the CD (see points 4 to 7 below). Make your changes to the page, and then click the Next button to continue.

4. Click on the Add Files… button if you want to add individual files from different locations on your machine – this will open the Add Files dialog used to locate the files you want to include on the new CD – the files added will appear in the File List showing the File Name and Size of the file. The Current Total bar will show the capacity left on the CD.

Note:
If the CD-R wizard was launched via the Publish wizard, then the File List will contain the name of the newly published version of your publication – this is a shortcut method of quickly burning your new publication onto a CD.

5. Click on the Add Directory… button if you want to add the whole contents of a folder on your machine – this will open the Add Directory dialog used to locate the folder you want to include on the new CD. The folders added will appear in the Directory List, use the plus button image\Expand_Plus_Button.jpg to open a folder and the minus button image\Expand_Minus_Button.jpg to close a folder – the individual files in the folder will be displayed in the File List. The Current Total bar will show the capacity left on the CD.

6. To remove a file or folder, select the name of the file in the File Name column of the File List or select the name of the folder in the Directory List, then click the Remove button.

7. The second page of the wizard allows you to set up the CD-R / RW information – many of the options are under the Advanced Options button (see points 8 to 16 below). Make your changes to the page, and then click the Next button to start the burn process.

Note:
Don’t forget to enter a blank CD-R or a CD-RW into the drive before you click on the Next button – the burn process will begin and current information will be displayed in the Progress panel.

8. Use the Drive panel to select the CD-R or CD-RW connected to your machine. Click on the down arrow next to the box to display all available CD-R / RW drives.

9. Use the Speed box to set the writing speed of the CD-R / RW. Click on the down arrow next to the box to list all speeds the currently selected CD-R / RW can write at.

Note:
The higher the number selected in the Speed box, the faster the CD is burned. However, the faster it writes the more chance there may be errors in the data – if you want to be safe, don’t always use the top speed for burning unless you have done so previously and are satisfied with the results.

10. Use the Advanced Options button to set up more information about this burn process, this will open a new screen of information described below (points 11 to 16).

11, Use the Volume ID panel to enter the name you want to give to the new CD. Type the name in the box – it will appear in uppercase letters.

Note:
The Volume ID is also known as the Label name and appears when you insert the CD in your machine and search for it in Windows Explorer

12. Use the Disc Capacity panel to enter the capacity of data the CD can hold. There are the two standard settings 80 Minutes and 74 Minutes or you can press the Auto Detect button and have the system work this out for you.

13. Use the Simulate write process option in the Pre Burn panel if you want the system to simulate the complete burn process before it actually does it – any errors that occur during the simulation are reported and the burn process will be cancelled. This is a good method of ensuring your burn process will work and you will not produce a corrupt CD.

Note:
The burn process will take twice as long to complete if the Simulate write process option is used as the system does the process twice, once as a test and then for real.

14. Tick the CD-RW Options panel in the Pre Burn panel if you want to erase data that is currently on a CD-RW, then select between Quick erase before write or Full erase before write.

Note:
The erase will happen before new data is burned to the CD-RW.

15. Use the Auto Run CD option if you want to create an Autorun.inf file, then click on the Browse… button to open the File Selection panel, this panel will display all of the files currently added to this burn process.

Note:
This option is particularly useful if you have run this wizard immediately after the Publish wizard because the new published version you have created will create a Program, for example, creating a Standalone program will create an EXE file and creating a Web publication will create an HTML file. The Auto Run CD option will create an Autorun.inf file in which you can enter the name of the file that will be launched when the user inserts the CD into their drive (e.g. the new EXE file).

16. Tick the Use Filter option in the File Selection panel if you want the File Name column to only list files of a specific File Type (e.g. ones that end in .EXE), then click on the Update button to view the new list. Select the name of the file you want to launch and click on the Back button to return to the Advanced Options page of the wizard – the file you selected will appear in the File to launch box.

17. Once you have made your changes in the Advanced Options page, click on the Back button to return to the second page of the CD-R wizard (the one showing the CD-R / RW Device panel and click on the Next button to start the burn process.

18. The Progress panel will show details of the burn process, such as: File – how much of the current file has been burned to disk; Total – amount of total files currently burned to disk; Status – current information about the burn process.

Note:
When the burn process has completed successfully a message will appear on screen and the CD drawer will open.

19. Click on the View Log button during or after the burn process for a summary of the burn process, then click the Finish button to close the CD-R wizard.

Changes to CD Writing support

Due to licensing changes Opus can no longer burn CDs directly. However Opus now uses the Nero Burning ROM API which enables CDs and, for the first time, DVDs to be created directly from Opus. This feature requires a copy of Nero to be installed on the same computer as Opus. If a suitable version of Nero is detected the CD/DVD writing feature is automatically enabled.

Requirements

To burn CD media requires Nero 5.0.3.9 or higher, Nero v6 recommended.

To burn DVD media requires Nero 5.5.9.4 or higher, Nero v6 recommended
