The Texture tab

The Texture tab in the Properties dialog box for a page allows you to create a textured effect to the page, for example, you can give the page a paper or plastic quality.

Note:
The Effects tab in the object’s Properties dialog allows you to add a variety of special effects to an object, including a texture effect – see The Effects tab for more information.

To edit the Texture tab settings:

  1. Click on the Texture option if you want to add a texture effect to the page. This will highlight all the options in the Texture tab. By default, this option is not selected.

Note:
If you use this effect on a Master Page it will apply to all pages that use the master.

  1. From the Texture list, select the texture you want to apply.

Note:
At the bottom of the list is a <custom> option; this allows you to select your own image that will be used as a texture effect. When you want to use your own customised image, select the <custom> option, then click on the Browse… button to open the Windows Open dialog. Locate the image you require and click the OK button to add the image.

  1. Use the Stretched option in the Mode panel if you want the single image that makes up the texture effect to be stretched to fill the page.

  2. Use the Tiled option in the Mode panel if you want the single images that makes up the text effect to be repeated across and down the page to fill the size of the page. By default, this option is selected.

  3. Click on the down button beside the Shininess box to select the reflective quality for the texture. A list of reflective attributes will appear.

  4. Click on the Invert Texture option if you want the original texture image to be reversed out.

  5. Click on the Preview option if you want to see a thumbnail version in the tab as you are setting your options.

Note:
In practice, the preview may not be adequate to determine if you like the effect. We recommend you choose your effect, mode and shininess options and then click the Apply button – the page will be updated to show the texture effect. If you like the effect, then you have finished. If you don’t like the effect, you can alter the effect and click the Apply button again or use the Undo button to remove previous effects.

  1. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.
