Navigate to Variable Action

The Navigate to Variable action allows you to show a web page directly from an Intranet or Internet into a Browser object – this is called navigating. The web page is entered in this action by saving the URL into an Opus variable.

Note:
To use this action you must have drawn at least one Browser object on the current page – see Using the Browser Tool for more information.

You must also have Internet Explorer v3.00 or above installed on your system. Users of your publication will also require Internet Explorer 3.00 or above installed on their system.

Setting up the Navigate to Variable action:

1. Add the Navigate to Variable action to your trigger, as described in adding actions. The Navigate to Variable tab will automatically appear when you add the action.

2. Use the Select the Internet browser this action applies to… panel to select the Browser object on the current page that you want to use. Click on the down arrow to the right of the Browser box to list all of the Browser objects that appear on the current page.

Note:
If the drop down box is empty, then there are no current Browser objects on the current page; therefore you will not be able to use this action.

3. Use the Navigate to the Internet address in this variable: panel to enter the Opus variable that contains a valid URL of the web page you want to open in the Browser object. Click on the New… button to open the New Variable dialog box in which you can create a new variable.

4. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

Note:
There is a Navigate action that performs the same action as this action. However, the Navigate action allows you to type the URL directly into the action or use multiple variables to create a pathname.
