Using the Browser Tool

On the Tools toolbar is the Browser toolimage\Icon_Object_Browser.jpg. Use this tool if you want to provide a live view of an Internet page in your publication. You can display a web page in the Browser viewport that will respond when you click on the links on the web page so that it will open the new page in the viewport.

Note:
The resource added to the Browser object is therefore an HTML file that describes a web page. The web page itself can either be online (i.e. on the Internet itself) or offline (i.e. on a CD-ROM or disk on your machine).

Adding a Browser to the page:

  1. Draw a Browser object on the page as described in Adding Objects to a Page – this will automatically open the Browsers tab in the object’s Properties dialog.

Note:
Make sure that the box is big enough to display the web page you want to view in the Browser. Scrollbars will appear automatically to the right and bottom of the Browser object if the web page displayed in the box is bigger than the box.

  1. Fill in the Browser tab in the Properties dialog to specify the URL of the web page you want to display and other settings.

  2. You can use the Browser actions to control the web page displayed in the Browser object – see Introducing Browser actions for more information.

Note:
Browser objects only contain the following standard tabs in Properties dialog box: General.

  1. A new Browser tab appears in the Properties dialog that allows you to set the default web page URL to be displayed in the browser when it is displayed, users can then select what pages they want to open in the browser – see more information below.
