Setting Kerning Pairs

For most circumstances the default set of kerning pairs supplied with Opus will provide excellent results. However it is possible to edit these settings and even have your own sets of kerning pairs for different projects.

To Apply the Default Kerning Pairs

  1. Select a text object which you wish to apply kerning to.

  2. Select the Font menu item from the Text menu.

  3. Using the drop down list labelled Kerning Mode you can choose any of the kerning pair sets you currently have available.

Note:
If you have not created any of your own sets you will only have two items in this list – Default and None

The first is the default setting provided by Opus. Choosing None has the same effect as disabling kerning on the Properties dialog.

  1. Click OK to Apply these settings.

To Edit the Default Kerning Profile.

  1. Proceed as above but then select the Settings button alongside the drop down list.

  2. This will bring up the Kerning Editor.

  1. In the list on the left, select the kerning pair you wish to adjust .

  2. Edit the adjustment using the spin buttons or the slider bar to the required setting. The result of your change will be displayed in the Preview panel below.

  3. You can change the font used in the Preview panel by selecting it from the drop down font list and you can change it to italic and/or bold by using the buttons alongside.

Note:
The font setting only applies to the Preview window. The changes made to the Kerning Profile will apply to any piece of text which is set to use this profile irrespective of the font it uses. However, there is nothing to stop you only applying a kerning profile only to text objects with a particular font.

To create your own Kerning profile use the Add button alongside the list of Profiles and then edit the kerning pairs as described above.

To delete a kerning profile simply select it in the drop down list and then press the Delete button.
