Resource Manager Workspace

The Resource Manager window is made up of three elements:

(i) The Organiser – an Explorer style view of the folders in which your publication resources are currently held.

(ii) The Resource pane – provides a list of resources in the currently selected folder in the Organiser.

(iii) The Preview button – opens the Preview pane in which you can play a video, animation or sound resource.

These are described in detail below.

Note:
The management tools available in the Resource Manager window are provided via the toolbar that runs along the top of the window – see Resource Manager Toolbar for more information.

The Organiser:

1. The Organiser on the left of the Resource Manager window provides an Explorer-style view of the directories in which your publication resources are currently held.

Note:
Only one publications resource folders are displayed in the Organiser at a time. The resources displayed are of the currently selected publication in the Page Organiser in the Opus Editor.

2. You can open and close folders and sub-folders by clicking on the plus image\Expand_Plus_Button.jpg and minus image\Expand_Minus_Button.jpg buttons beside the folder image\Resource_Manager_Icon_Folder_Closed.jpg icon.

3. The currently opened folder icon is image\Resource_Manager_Icon_Folder_Open.jpg – to open a different folder, simply click on the folder image\Resource_Manager_Icon_Folder_Closed.jpg icon.

4. When you open a folder, the Resource Pane will show the resources contained in the folder. If the Resource Pane is blank, the selected folder does not contain any resources.

The Resource pane:

1. The Resource pane to the right of the Organiser provides a list of resources in the currently selected folder in the Organiser.

2. For each resource displayed, the columns display the: Filename; Size in Kilobytes; Mode of operation (normally default); the name of the Object that uses the resource – that is, the name of the image or button in which the resource is used; and finally, the Page on which the resource is being used.

3. When a resource is used more than once, then all its uses are displayed in the list – see Example.

4. The order in which the resources are displayed by default is in ascending alphabetical order of the filename, as indicated by the up arrow image\Resource_Manager_Icon_Sort_Up.jpg beside the Filename column heading.

5. You can arrange the resources by any of the column headings by simply clicking once on the column heading; the arrow image\Resource_Manager_Icon_Sort_Up.jpg will be placed alongside the column heading and the resources will be re-ordered. If you click on the arrow, then the arrow will change to image\Resource_Manager_Icon_Sort_Down.jpg and the order will be reversed from its current position.

The Preview pane:

1. The Preview pane of the Resource Manager window is initially hidden and can be opened by pressing the Preview button in the bottom right-hand corner of the window – this will open the Preview pane showing a Resource player that can display an image or play a video, animation or sound.

2. To close the Preview pane simply click on the Preview button again and the pane will be hidden.

3. To see a preview of one of the resources, click on the name of the resource in the Filename column of the Resource pane.

4. If the selected resource is a video or an animation it is displayed in the pane and begins to play.

5. If the selected resource is a sound, the sound is played and the pane will display an animated Sound icon.

6. If you select an image resource, the pane will display the image stretched to fit the size of the pane.

7. If nothing is selected, the Preview pane will be empty.
