Copy Vector Pen/Fill

The Copy Vector Pen/Fill option in the QuickBuild menu allows you to copy the pen and/or Fill styles of one vector polygon and paste them onto another polygon or group of polygons. This is particularly useful for creating a consistent look and feel to a publication; for example, you will want vector images to look the same on every page.

The standard Windows Copy feature and the Duplicate button in Opus will copy the whole object. For example, if you copy an object named Vector 1 and use the Paste button or Duplicate button you will have get a new object named Vector 1 (2), that is, an exact copy of the object. The Copy Vector Pen/Fill feature however will only copy the pen and fill of the polygon and not the whole object. This feature is useful when you have created a number of vector objects and you want to quickly make sure that they all have the same styles.

Using the Copy Vector Pen/Fill feature:

  1. Create a vector object and change its pen and fill as required – see Polygon brush properties and Polygon pen properties for more information.

  2. Select the polygon whose appearance you want to copy – the bounding box will surround the object.

  3. Select Copy Vector Pen/Fill from the QuickBuild menu.

  4. The fill and pen styles are saved in a Vector Pen/Fill Clipboard (i.e. a memory storage area) and the PasteVector Pen/Fill options in the QuickBuild menu are enabled. You can now paste the styles onto other polygon objects – see Paste Vector Pen/Fill feature for more information.

  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for each polygon whose styles you want to copy. This will overwrite the current style information held in the Vector Pen/Fill Clipboard (which can only contain one set of information at a time) and replace it with the new style information.

Note:
Opus will only remember the pen and fill of the last object copied (i.e. the Vector Pen/Fill Clipboard works in a similar way to the standard Windows Copy Clipboard). However, at any time you can re-select a polygon and use the Copy Vector Pen/Fill option again when you need to paste a polygon’s styles onto any new vectors you create in your publication.
