Options tab

The Options tab in the Publication Properties dialog allows you to control certain general options for your publication. The options set here apply across the whole of your publication.

To edit the Options tab settings:

  1. Use the Reset option if you want to go to a certain page if the publication has been inactive for a period of time. Use the spin buttons next to the After box to enter the time to elapse before the page is reset. By default, the After box is set to 60 minutes, although you can set the minutes and seconds to any time.

Note:
Make sure you give the user enough reading time to read and think about the page contents and set your time accordingly. It will be frustrating for a user if you reset before they have finished reading the page – so allow a generous time interval.

  1. Use the Go to Page option in the Reset panel if you want to show a page within your publication when the Reset time has been reached. Click on the down arrow to the right of the box to list all of the pages in your publication.

  2. Use the Exit option in the Reset panel if you want to exit the publication when the Reset time has been reached.

Note:
If the On Exit Display Page option (see point 5 below) is set, the exit page is displayed when the Reset time is reached.

  1. Use the Surround Colour option to specify a colour that is used to surround the publication if the page is smaller than the user’s screen size (or the window in which the publication is being displayed). Click on the down arrow to the right of the box to open the colour well and select your new colour accordingly.

Note:
As an alternative to a surround colour, you can specify an image to be used for the surround. Below the Surround Colour option is a shortcut button image\Publication_Properties_Options_Shortcut.jpg that will open the Image tab in the Publication Properties dialog – use the Image tab to add your surround image – see Image tab for more information. This option is not compatible with Vista or Windows 7.

  1. Use the On Exit Display Page option if you want a specific page to appear when a user exits from the publication. Click on the down arrow to the right of the box to list all of the pages in your current publication and select the page you want to appear.

Note:
This option is particularly useful if a user can exit your publication from any page, you may want a standard exit page to always appear, for example, to show a thank-you message or to show credits and/or copyright notices.

Special Note:

This option is not relevant when you publish your publication as a Screensaver (.SCR file) and so is ignored.

  1. Use the For only option in the if you want the exit page you selected (point 5 above) to only appear for a specific time before it automatically exits the publication completely. Use the spin buttons next to the For Only box to set the minutes and seconds the exit page will be displayed. This option is particularly useful for credits and copyright notice exit pages, which you may want to only show for a couple of seconds.

Note:
If you want a user to control when they leave the exit page, use an Exit action on the page. Any method available to the user on the exit page will close the publication completely. Allowing users to control when they exit the publication is particularly useful if the exit page requests information from the user, such as, feedback questionnaires or contact details.

  1. Use the Exit panel if you want to set keys on your keyboard to close down the publication. There are two options: (i) Esc Exits option– when the user hits the Esc key, the publication is exited; (ii) ALT+F4 Exits option – when the user holds down the Alt key and presses the function key F4 at the same time, the publication is exited. These two options are standard methods of exiting software applications. By default, both options are selected.

Note:
If an exit page has been set up (point 5 above) then this is displayed when the exit key is pressed.

  1. Use the Password Protected option in the Exit panel if you want to prevent users exiting your publication without entering a password first. Type the password the user must type in the Password box in order for them to exit the publication.

Note:
This is useful for rolling-demo publications often used in public places – you can ensure users cannot close the publication down by accident. When the user tries to escape, a Password dialog box will appear on screen requesting the user to type the password. If an incorrect password is entered, the publication will not exit.

  1. Use the Disable Alt+Tab & Ctrl+Esc option to prevent the end user from switching away from the publication with the Task Switcher (Alt+Tab) or Windows (Ctrl+Esc) keys.

Note:
This option only effects the published publication. To prevent any problems while developing a publication it does not work in the editor preview.

Special Note:

This option is not relevant when you publish your publication as a Screensaver or as a Web publication.

  1. Use the Disable Windows screensaver while the publication is running option to prevent the system screensaver becoming active while the publication is running.

Note:
This option only effects the published publication. To prevent any problems while developing a publication it does not work in the editor preview.
