Image tab

The Image tab in the Properties dialog box allows you to load and set up an image in any of the supported file formats.

Note:
When you create an Image object on the page, the Properties dialog box will automatically open showing the Image tab.

Special Note:

The Image tab also appears in the Publication Properties dialog – the options are the same as described below. However, the image appears as the background of the screen and will only be displayed when the Main Publication Window is set to the Display Full Screen option in the Window tab of the Publication Properties dialog.

To edit the Image tab settings:

  1. Click on the Browse button to the right of the Filename box to locate the image you want to show in this object. The Windows Open File dialog box will appear, which allows you to locate the file you want.

Note:
If you click on the drop down button beside the Filename box, a list of images you have most recently added to Opus will appear. You can select one of these images instead of using the Browse button. Alternatively, select the None option from the list if you do not want to display an image with this object.

  1. Click on the Preview button if you want to see a preview of the image in the tab.

  2. In the Display Options panel of the tab, select how you want to display the image in relation to the box containing it.

Note:
By default, an image is set to Size to Fit and Keep Aspect. However, you can change the Display Options to any of the other options in the tab, as described below.

  1. Click on the Fixed option if you want the image to start at the top left corner of the object’s bounding box. The image will be the same size as it was originally created.

Note:
You may need to resize the bounding box to show the entire image.

  1. Click on the Tile option if you want the image to display repeatedly across and down until the bounding box is filled.

  2. Click on the Centred option if you want to centre the image in the bounding box.

  3. Click on the Scale to Fit option if you want to stretch the image to fit the bounding box you have drawn. This will activate the Keep Aspect option (see next point).

Note:
If you change the size of the bounding box, the image will continually stretch to fit the new size of the box.

  1. Click on the Keep Aspect option if you want an image that has been set to Size to Fit in proportion, that is not stretched or out of shape. This option will keep an image’s proportions (aspect ratio) and prevents an image looking stretched or out of shape.

Note:
When setting the image in the Publication Properties dialog, the Surround Colour (set in the Options tab of the Publication Properties dialog) will fill the parts of the screen not covered by the image.

  1. Click on the Transparent option, if you want to ignore one of the colours in the image and let the background show through. Use the colour slider beneath the Colour box to increase the range of that particular colour that will be ignored – see Creating Transparent Background Graphics.

  2. Click on the Bilinear Resample option if you want to use a high quality resampling method to improve the quality of resized or rotated images in your finished publication. Note that this option is slightly slower than a normal resize.

  3. Click on the Apply buttons to save your changes.

Note:
Use a paint package to resize the image to match the size of your frame in Opus – If you use oversize images the speed and published size of your publication may be affected.
