DocView tab

The DocView tab in the Properties dialog box will create a live viewport for any ActiveX document such as a Word document, an Excel spreadsheet or a PowerPoint presentation.

Note:
In order to display a document with the DocView object, the user must have the appropriate software to display a particular document format on their machine; otherwise the document will not be displayed. For example to display a PDF they must have the Adobe PDF viewer on their computer.

To edit the DocView tab settings:

  1. Use the File name of source document to view option to specify the pathname to the file you want to display. Click on the Browse… button to open the Windows Browse dialog and locate the file to open. Alternatively, you can use variables to enter a filename.

  2. Tick the Outline border option if you want a black outline border around the DocView window. If this option is not ticked, the DocView will appear with no border.

  3. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

Note:
If you use a variable to specify a pathname and/or filename then you can have one DocView object on a page that can be used to open a variety of documents. For example, if the Filename of source option contained:

  <SYSTEM_PUBLICATION_DIR><docName>

The System variable would show the path to the current folder in which the publication resides and the variable docName could be set to any filename e.g. introduction.txt or statistics.xls.
