Effects: Blur

Blur is one of the options in the Category list on the Effects tab in an object’s Properties dialog box.

This effect allows you to blur an object, setting the amount of blur used horizontally and vertically as well as the quality.

In the example below the text has been blurred by 5 pixels both horizontally and vertically with a quality setting of 2.

To edit the settings for the Blur effect:

  1. Select the object you want to blur and open the Effects tab on the Properties for that object.

  2. Click on the Blur option and the settings dialog should appear.

  1. If you want to blur the object Horizontally, Vertically or both, use the spin buttons beside the relevant option to increase or decrease the amount of blur in the relevant direction.

  2. Use the spin buttons for the Quality setting to decide the softness of the blur effect.

Note:
The greater the quality setting the more processing is required. If you are applying the blur to a large image you may want to render the image once you have decided on the final settings. This will fix the blur into the image and will save processing time when published.

  1. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

To reset the Blur effect:

To remove a blur effect, for example when used for different appearances (states) for an object, you need to apply a blur with no settings.

  1. Select the appearance (Mouse Over, Mouse Down etc) which you want to become unblurred.

  2. Open the Effects tab and click the Blur option for that state to on.

  3. Use the spin buttons to reduce the Horizontal and Vertical settings to 0 and the Quality setting to 1.

  4. Click Apply to use these settings. Now when the different object state appears the object will not be blurred.
