Aligning Objects Automatically

In addition to using the Grid option to ensure that you draw and position objects in the right place, you can also align objects automatically. All objects can be aligned to the left, right, top or bottom of an object or the centre of each object can be aligned horizontally, vertically or both. Opus provides a shortcut to these functions via the Align and Align Centres options on the Arrange menu.

To align objects automatically:

  1. The last object selected is the primary object, in other words, the one to which all other objects will be aligned. A bounding box will surround the object.

  2. Hold down the Shift key and click on all of the objects you want to align to the last selected object. These objects are the secondary objects. Notice that a bounding box appears around each secondary object – this bounding box has a thinner line surrounding the object than the primary object.

  3. Click on the Arrange menu and point to:

Align, and then click on the Left, Right, Top or Bottom option.

Align Centres, then click on Horizontal, Vertical or Both option.

  1. The secondary objects will automatically be aligned to the primary object once you have selected an option.
