Reverse Score Action

Only required if you are manually scoring an action. Do not use in conjunction with the Question object which automatically reverses all scoring when appropriate.

The Reverse Score action allows you to quickly update all the scoring variables built into Opus when you wish to reverse a score.

This might be used to allow a user to return to a particular question which they got wrong and reattempt it.

The options on the Reverse Score dialog are identical to those on the Store Score dialog and you set them up in the same way using the settings you originally set to Store Score.

You must reproduce the score as it was originally – you do not need to try to calculate the reversal. So if the original was marked as Correct with a score of 1 out of 2 then the Reverse Score setting should also be Correct with a score of 1 out of 2 It should NOT be set as Incorrect with –1 out of 2.

Setting up the Reverse Score action:

  1. Add the Reverse Score action to your trigger, as described in adding actions. The Store Score tab will automatically appear when you add the action.

  2. Use the Store Score as panel if the original question added points to the Scoring variables because the response by the user is correct or incorrect. Click Correct when the original user’s response was the correct answer to the question, and Incorrect if it was not.

In the Score Value panel below you can set the user’s response as partially correct, for example, you can award 3 points out of 5 for giving this response.

  1. Use the Score this answer as worth box in the Score Value panel to enter the amount of points you originally awarded for the user’s response. This can be a positive or a negative number. Use the spin buttons to set the number or type it directly in the box.

Note:
Notice this is the amount of points awarded for the users response and NOT necessarily the total amount of points that can be awarded for this question – e.g. the user may get 3 points but 5 points could be the maximum they could get (see next point).

  1. Use the …out of box in the Score Value panel to enter the total number of points that could have been awarded for this question. This can be a positive or a negative number. Use the spin buttons to set the number or type it directly in the box.

  2. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

In practice the reverse score action is primarily intended for reversing Incorrect answers where the scoring is consistent – otherwise you need to keep track of the values for each question so the right score could be reversed.

More complex scores can be reversed if the reversal of a score is immediate. For example you might have a piece of training which prevents a learner from moving on before they have answered a key question correctly. You would award a score and check it against a pass threshold and then immediately return the learner to the test to retake if the threshold was not achieved.

If required you can keep track of the user’s answers using an Array variable and then use the Reverse Score to update the score selectively.
