Change Publication Evaluation Action

image\Action_Publication_Eval.jpg

The Change Publication Evaluation action is used for publications that have been created to time-out a given number of days after the publication is first run. This action allows you to decide what happens once the publication has expired (i.e. reached its time-out date).

Note:
Any publication can be made to expire after a set number of days using the Evaluation options in the Security tab of a publication’s Properties dialog box.

Setting up the Change Publication Evaluation action:

1. Add the Change Publication Evaluation action to your trigger, as described in adding actions. The Change Publication Evaluation tab will automatically appear when you add the action.

2. Click on the Reset the evaluation timer option if you want the expiry time to be reset to zero and start counting again.

Note:
This option will use the original number of days you entered in the Days to timeout option in the Security tab of the publication’s Properties dialog – you cannot change the number of days to a new number. For example, if your publication was set to timeout after 30 days from when it was first run, this option will allow another time-out period of 30 days from the next time the publication is run.

3. Click on the Ignore the expiry time option if you want to remove the expiry option.

Note:
In other words, you can reset the publication so that it ignores the time-out period completely and will run every time you open it and will never expire.

4. Click on the Expire option if you want the publication to be permanently expired.

Note:
If the Expire option is selected then the next time a user opens a publication that has expired, either the Expiry dialog box or the expiry page will appear on screen. If you have not set an expiry page, then the Expiry dialog box will appear by default.

5. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

Remember, this action has three options that affect the publication differently. Only one option can be selected for the action. However, there is nothing stopping you from using all options in the same publication by adding each option on separate buttons. See link below for more information.
