Using Sound on a Timeline

A timeline is a great way to synchronise events with a soundtrack as it can be used to display the waveform and actions can be positioned accurately on timeline tracks other than the audio.

When adding an audio file to do this you should ensure the Play Sound is the only aciton on a particular track of the timeline and then make sure the option "Wait for sound to finish" is ON.

On a standard action this would prevent anything else from happening but on a timline it merely prevents that track having any other actions until the sound has finished. It also has the benefit of displaying the waveform of the audio to allow you to judge visually where events on other tracks should go.

You can then simply add actions to Show and Hide or perform other tasks on the other tracks available in the timeline and you can build a complex series of events properly synchronised to the audiio – ideal for narrated slideshows, karoake or for children’s read-aloud books.
