Variables tab

The Variables tab in the Publication Properties dialog allows you to view all System and Publicationvariables for the current publication – you can also add new Publication variables or edit and remove existing Publication variables.

Note:

As well as System and Publication variables, you can also have Page variables – these are shown in the Variables tab in the Page Properties dialog.

Variables declared in an OpusScript program are not listed in either the Page Properties or PublicationProperties dialogs.

To edit the Variables tab settings:

  1. The Variables list contains all of the System and Publication variables created for the current publication. These variables can be used throughout your publication.

  2. To edit the initial value of a Publication variable, select the Publication variable in the Name column of the Variable list and either double-click on the variable name or click the Edit button to open the New Variable dialog. Then make your changes and click the OK button in the dialog to return to the Variables tab.

  3. To create a new Publication variable, click on the Add button to open the New Variable dialog. Enter the Publication variable details in the dialog and click the OK button to return to the Variables tab – see New Variable dialog for more information.

  4. To delete a Publication variable, click on the Remove button.

Note:
The Publication variable will be deleted instantly, no warning message will be given prior to deletion.

  1. To import variables from a saved list, click on the Import button. A standard File Open dialog will appear and allow you to select an Opus Variable List file (.ovlist)

  2. To export one or more variables to a file, select the variables you want to export and click on the Export button. A standard Save As dialog will prompt you for a filename so save the selected variables to.

Note:
Multiple variables can be selected by using Shift + Left Click to select a range, and Ctrl + Left Click to select multiple individual variables.

  1. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

Note:
The Preset and System variables are provided by Opus but can be useful for users to store and retrieve information – see Preset and System Variables – a Glossary for more information.
