DirectX tab

The DirectX tab in the Publication Properties dialog allows you to set how and when the publication you create uses DirectX.

Note:

DirectX is now almost universally used by Windows systems. Very rarely it can cause compatibility problems on some machines – particularly Vista machines which have not been upgraded, so there may be circumstances where you would want to turn it off.

To edit the DirectX tab settings:

  1. Use the Never use DirectX option in the Graphics panel if you want to avoid using DirectX under any circumstances.

Note:
Disabling DirectX may cause transitions and animations to run more slowly on older systems.

  1. Use the Use DirectX if available (default) option in the Graphics panel if you want the publication to use DirectX if it is installed on the users machine. By default, this option is selected and is so even if DirectX is not installed.

  2. Use the Only use DirectX option in the Graphics panel if you want the publication to only run if DirectX is installed.

  3. Use the Enable DirectX Sound option in the Sound panel if you want to allow sound mixing of WAV format files as well as provide support for MP3 and ASF sounds. By default, this option is selected.

Note:
This option may cause problems on some older computers, so you can turn off the Direct Sound portion of DirectX by not selecting this option but still use the graphics features in DirectX.

  1. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

Note:
One of the Publication Types in the Type tab of the Publication Properties dialog allows you to publish a DirectX Exclusive publication – see Type tab in Publication Properties for more information.
