Animation tab

The Animation tab in the Properties dialog box for Text objects allows you to specify a special way in which text objects will appear on screen and disappear when hidden. For example, you could have text drop into place when it is displayed and spin away when it is hidden.

Some of the text animations are confided to the bounding box of the text object whilst others (such as Rain) bring the text on from the edge of the page. IN the former case you may wish to enlarge the bounding box of the text object and position the text at the bottom or to one side to allow a greater space for the effect to occur.

Note:
These Text Animations are a special kind of Transition that applies only to text objects and should not be confused with Animation actions which can be set to any object. If you set both a transition and an animation on a text object the transition will apply to all the visual elements of the text (background, border, image, flare etc), but not the text itself, then the animation will take place on the text.

For example, if you have a text object with an image background set and you add a fade show transition and a spin text show animation. When the object is shown the background image would fade in and then, when that was complete, the text would spin into place. The reverse is true for hide transitions and animations, so the text hide animation would take place, followed by the hide transition.

Important Note:

Text animations require the text to be handled by the Opus text engine. It is not possible to perform text animations on text that is drawn by the Windows operating system. For this reason any text using animations text must be set to anti-aliasing level 1 or 2 - see Choosing your Anti-aliasing option for Text for more information.

To edit the Animation tab settings:

  1. Click the On Show button if you want to set a transition when the text is first displayed on the screen. This will activate the On Show panel to allow you to set your options.

  2. Click the On Hide button if you want to set a animation when the text is hidden. This will activate the On Hide panel to allow you to set your options.

Note:
The same set of options are available in the On Show and On Hide panels and are described below.

Each text object can have both an On Show as well as an On Hide animation and they can be completely different styles of animation.

  1. Click on the down button beside the quick selection box if you want to choose from a list of the most recently used animations you have used in Opus.

  2. Click on the More button to view the complete range of animations. This will open the Animations dialog box, then select one of the animations from the list.

Note:
Once you have selected a animation, the Preview window will display the effect you have chosen for this object.

  1. Use the spin buttons beside the Animation length box to set the length of time that Opus takes to perform the chosen animation effect. Note that some animations require a reasonable length of time to perform properly. If you set this too low you will not see the full effect of the Animation.

  2. Click on the Apply button to save your changes.

QuickBuild Sound Effects

  1. You can now choose to quickly apply a sound effect for your transition by clicking this button. This will bring up the Sound Browser for you to choose a sound file from. Once you have chosen the file click OK. The QuickBuild will now create the relevant action to provide a sound effect for your transition.

  2. If you want to edit the sound effect you should go to the Actions tab for the object you have added the transition to.
