DVD Video Compatibility

DVD Video has a number of features and requirements dedicated to its core use as a medium to replay large amounts of video. These features are very different to that of a PC or a multimedia authoring tool. Furthermore, implementation of the functionality available in DVD Video and the settings for playback can vary considerably between different makes and even different models of domestic DVD players.

Generally-speaking compatibility problems are most likely with standalone DVD players which also perform DVD writing, and perversely the more expensive DVD players can be more temperamental. Compatibility issues arise with menu functions, so for the widest compatibility you can produce a simple self-launching video.

The internal DVD burning facility provided with Opus will attempt to provide the best functionality for your current publication but make it compatible with the widest range of players. We tested the Opus output on a wide range of DVD players including old and new models, low cost and high specification and both PC and domestic players. However, as with all publishing we strongly recommend that you test your specific publication fully.

If you require greater control of settings, functionality and compatibility of specific functions you can use Opus to publish the DVD or even just the constituent video files and then using a standalone DVD burning tool to actually create the menu and/or burn the disk may improve the compatibility.

Opus uses DVD burning functionality from Nero so if you prefer using an alternative product you should use Opus to simply publish the DVD to your hard disk and then burn the actual DVD with your preferred tool.
