training teachers in new the cross-curriculum opportunities of multimedia
Opus has always been popular with teachers who want to create engaging resources
which they can tailor to particular lesson plans or target whole school
initiatives. It is especially useful where traditional suppliers do not
feel it is cost-effective to produce material. A prime example is teaching
which requires dual language resources, which is just one of the reasons
why Opus is so popular in Welsh schools.
And with whiteboards becoming widespread in schools, Opus is even more useful.
So it is no surprise that teacher training courses often use it to give their
graduates these additional skills.
At Trinity College they combine all
these benefits so their student teachers graduate with added value on their
CVs. As part of their second year they use Opus to create whiteboard and
interactive CD Rom resources in English and/or Welsh. The students are then
encouraged to buy their own copy of Opus at a discounted rate so they can
take their resources, skills and their added vale with them when they graduate.
Now Swansea Institute of Higher
Education is doing a similar thing with Headstart Pro.
