Magnifying Glass Effect
To create this effect, use the following procedure:
- Create a blank new publication
- Right-click on the page and select Properties
- Select the Image tab
- Click the Browse button and select the image you would like to display on the page
- Depending on the aspect ratio of the chosen image, you may need to disable the 'Keep Aspect' option to ensure the image fills the page
- Click Apply and OK to confirm the changes
- Now select the Image tool and draw an image frame on the page (the size and position are not important at this stage)
- In the Properties of the image, click Browse and select the same image you used for the page
- Again, ensure that the 'Keep Aspect' option is disabled to allow the image to fill the image frame
- Click Apply to apply the changes, but do not click OK
- Select the General tab and place a tick in the 'Fix object to page' checkbox
- Ensure that the 'Stop mouse clicks passing through' option is NOT checked
- Click Apply and OK to confirm the changes and return to the editor
- Select the Frame tool and draw a frame measuring 100 x 100 pixels (the dimensions of the frame are displayed in the bottom-left of the screen as you are creating the object)
- In the properties for the frame, select the Border tab
- Select the Ellipse style border, an Absolute Width of 4 pixels and black as the Primary Colour
- Click Apply to apply the changes, but do not click OK
- Select the Drag and Drop tab
- Place a tick in the 'This object can be dragged' checkbox and remove the tick from the 'Return to original position if not dropped' checkbox
- Click Apply and OK to confirm the changes and return to the editor
- In the Organiser pane, position the cursor over the Image object (this will probably be named 'Image 1')
- Hold down the RIGHT mouse button and drag the Image 1 object on top of the Frame 1 object
- Release the right mouse button and a small menu should appear. Left click on the option to 'Insert Into'
- The image should now appear shrunken within the frame
- In the Organiser pane, right-click on the Image object and select Properties
- Select the General tab
- Set the Width and Height of the image to the same dimensions as the page (this is 800 x 600, by default)
- Click Apply and OK to confirm the changes
- With the image object selected, click Arrange → Centre Objects → Both
- Now click on the Frame object in the Organiser pane to select it
- With the frame object selected, click Arrange → Centre Objects → Both
- Now right-click on the frame object and select Properties
- Select the Effects tab
- Place a tick in the Stretch checkbox
- Type 150 into the Horizontally field
- Type 150 into the Vertically field
- Click Apply and OK to confirm the changes and return to the editor
- Now preview the publication and try dragging the frame around the page. The zoom effect should now be apparent.
